A lot of thought provoking questions especially about the education arena going forward. Especially regarding remote learning and the hybrid approach

Really actually answers many of the questions that I have pondering over. Especially as in our district in India, many schools are reopening. The school I teach in has reopned for teachers but not yet for students. This feels a bit odd ..but yes we go to school, sit in classrooms, take virtual sessions with our students and basically getting used to beginning again. It is really scary as my district is the one with most cases in India throughout the pandemic. I really don’t know what to expect once kids start to come over to school post new year . I am scared and confused. I feel now with the online sessions, there is a certain comfort level that has set in .when there is classes at school, I am not sure how productive it is going to be.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts about this school year. Going into the 2020 school year, my county was on a list for having covid-19 on a widespread level. We knew that the plan for reopening would happen, once the county had moved out of the widespread tier. Fast forward a few months and we now get to reopen our schools. The district and teachers have decided to go with in person instruction 5 days a week, while still providing the option of a distance learning model for those that choose it. For our in person model, students will remain in class until lunch time, and then they will go home. After lunch, students will return to class, but in a virtual setting. This adjustment seemed daunting at first. Once I began planning and thinking about the new opportunities this style could allow for, my nerves began to feel at ease. The traditional classroom that we are used to is not going to be what teaching looks like, even when we come back to school. I will be spending my time prior to lunch teaching content, and in the afternoon I will be able to do small group instruction. In the past, all students are present during small group and interruptions happen more often than not. However, since my small group instruction will be virtual, there will not be disruptions from students outside of the group. I am looking forward to teaching in this manner, and I think it has the potential for better results. This is not to say that I even closely have everything figured out as my reopening day approaches, but I am beginning to rethink how I see teaching. This new lens is creating positive thoughts and new possibilities for the rest of this year.

I’ve updated it as new information came out, and was relieved when my school decided to go fully remote!

It provides a fascinating alternative to current traditional classes.

As a student, I can never truly understand the teacher’s point of view when it comes to educating the next generation of students in these current times.

I am a school counselor in northeastern North Carolina. I’m certain that this school year is going to be challenging, but I am trying to stay positive. My concern is not only for our student safety in school, but also at home if we do go “virtual” again. Home is not always a safe place for kids.

I hope that over time the public school model will change as you have outlined under the Perhaps An Opportunity section.
